Open Books is a non-profit organization focused on transforming lives through reading, writing, and the unlimited power of books with a strong commitment to partnering with communities in Chicago. Lifting L2 Literacy 2026 takes place on Friday, June 12, 2026 being held at the American Writers Museum from 6pm – 9pm.
The evening of live music, curated cocktails, delectable cuisine features Carla Bruni, who will do a special presentation from her latest book, “Chicago Homes: A Portrait of the City’s Everyday Architecture”. This fundraiser will, more importantly, be an evening with the purpose of supporting our vision and mission.
Donation Opportunities Lifting L2 Literacy Invitation(s) - $150 per person Each $150 donation goes directly to Open Books and delivers one (1) personalized invitation to the 2026 Lifting L2 Event. $120.00 of every $150.00 donation is tax deductible.

L2 Reading Builder - +$50 Can provide books and supplies for up to two (2) 1st or 2nd graders in Open Books Reading Buddies program L2 Youth Builder - +$100 Can support Open Books' Little Free Libraries in North Lawndale L2 Childhood Literacy Builder - +$250 Can support supplies for an Open Books eight-week Early Childhood Literacy Residency in at-home daycares L2 Resource Builder - +$500 Can support the development of resources for parents and caregivers in Open Books' target communities
Open Books is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit literacy organization. A portion of your donation is considered tax-exempt under federal law and IRS guidelines and a member of the Open Books team will share a tax receipt that acknowledges that portion at the conclusion of this event.
